It all started when Benjamin Cohen, our founder, began selling dental instruments out of a 100-pound carrying case in 1924. Based in Philadelphia, PA, he traveled by train and called on dentists within walking distance of the train station at every stop along the line. After six years and miles of shoe leather, Benjamin moved to northeastern Pennsylvania with his wife, Kitty, and opened Benco Dental in 1930. Their son, Larry, joined the business in 1959. Fresh out of graduate school and a short stint in the Army, Larry quickly became the company's #1 sales rep. Benco Dental won customers and grew exponentially until disaster struck in 1972. Hurricane Agnes swept into Pennsylvania, drowning the company's headquarters with 8.5 feet of water. That same year, Benjamin passed away.
